Case Study: Emmy's Room
Duration: September ‘24 - December ‘24
My role: Concept Artist, Illustrator, and Character Designer
Objective: To develop an environment that reflects Emmy’s personality and create a detailed illustration that brings her space to life.
In this case study, I share the creative process behind Emmy’s Room—an environment designed to reflect Emmy’s personality and story. Over several months, I worked closely with the client to ensure every detail, from layout to final rendering, aligned with her character and lifestyle.
This step-by-step overview traces the project’s evolution from early sketches to the finished piece, offering insight into my illustration workflow and approach to environment design.
Stage 1: Sketching by Hand
The client provides a detailed character description, covering personality, lifestyle, and environment. Based on this, Prinki explores composition, scale, and layout through quick traditional sketches to find the most fitting visual direction.
Stage 2: Turning a Traditional Sketch into Digital
The idea moves to digital format in Krita. Prinki sketches basic, boxy shapes to establish perspective and structure, then refines the drawing with more natural, realistic details.
Stage 3: Color Choice
Prinki creates several colour palette options. In this project, three variations were presented, and the client selected one to move forward with.
Stage 4: Flat Colours
The chosen palette is applied across the illustration. Base colours are blocked in uniformly to establish a balanced foundation for the final rendering.
Stage 5: Details and Rendering
Final touches add realism and atmosphere. Prinki introduces shadows, reflections, and colour variations to enhance depth and make the scene more immersive.
Conclusion
At every stage, the entire illustration is developed evenly. This ensures a consistent quality across all elements and prevents parts from being over- or underworked.
